About the role
WEX is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to build and operate backend services and an agentic AI platform for its North America Mobility team. The role involves developing internet-scale services, AI/LLM-powered applications, and integrating AI systems with external tools.
What you’ll do
Build and operate backend services for the North America Mobility platform
Develop and maintain an agentic AI platform with autonomous AI agents and APIs
Design scalable, available, secure, and reliable services
Build and optimize RESTful APIs and integrate with external tools using MCP
Support financial and operational workflows with AI systems
Contribute to production-grade AI agents and copilots
What you’ll need
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering
5–8 years of professional experience in software engineering
Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design
Expertise in Java or C#, SpringBoot, RESTful APIs, ODATA, and SQL
Hands-on experience building AI/LLM-powered applications or agent-based systems
Experience integrating AI systems with external tools/APIs using MCP
