About the role
General Matter is building low-cost domestic uranium enrichment services and seeking an Engineering Manager to lead its Applied AI team, using LLMs and AI agents to accelerate engineering workflows across the company. The role combines hands-on technical leadership, team building, and ownership of AI-driven internal tools.
What you’ll do
Lead an applied AI team focused on accelerating engineering workflows
Set technical direction for AI tooling and architecture
Build AI tools in partnership with engineering teams across the company
Review PRs, debate architecture, and solve difficult technical problems
Hire and develop engineers who take ownership and move quickly
Scale team structure and process while preserving speed, autonomy, and technical quality
What you’ll need
7+ years of professional software engineering or applied AI experience
2+ years managing, mentoring, or growing software or applied AI engineers
Proven experience building and shipping software using LLMs, AI agents, or modern AI techniques
Strong software engineering fundamentals and proficiency in Python
BS or higher in engineering, physics, chemistry, applied math, computer science, or a related technical field
US Citizen able to obtain and maintain a Q clearance; available onsite daily and extended hours/weekends as needed
