About the role
CALTEK is seeking an experienced Scala Developer to develop, modernize, or refactor Scala applications, with a focus on Kafka-based systems, APIs and microservices, and containerized endpoint deployments. The role requires onsite work in NYC three days per week.
What you’ll do
Develop, modernize, or refactor Scala applications
Work with Kafka-based systems and event-driven architecture
Build and maintain APIs and microservices
Containerize and deploy endpoints using Docker and Kubernetes
Integrate Scala applications with SQL/NoSQL databases, message brokers, and cloud platforms
Optimize JVM/Scala performance, memory management, concurrency, and multithreading
What you’ll need
Strong hands-on Scala development, including functional and object-oriented programming, type-safe programming, immutable data structures, and asynchronous processing
Strong Kafka expertise and experience with event-driven architecture
Experience with Scala frameworks such as Akka, Play, or ZIO
Hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes for containerization and deployments
Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated builds, monitoring, and endpoint deployments
Ability to modernize and refactor legacy Java applications by integrating Scala modules
