About the role
Amazon is looking for a Systems Development Engineer in Herndon, VA to join the AWS Operations Management team, balancing day-to-day operations with long-term engineering improvements. The role aims to reduce operational toil and enhance the availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of AWS Regions.
What you’ll do
Maintain and operate AWS software systems day-to-day
Drive long-term engineering improvements to reduce operational toil
Improve availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of AWS Regions
Implement CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
Apply Generative AI technologies to operational challenges
Automate operational tasks using scripting and modern programming languages
What you’ll need
3+ years of administrative experience in networking, storage systems, operating systems, and hands-on systems engineering (5+ years for senior level)
2+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
Experience programming with at least one modern language (Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust)
Experience with Linux/Unix and automation/scripting languages (Bash, Shell, Python, etc.)
Experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and Generative AI technologies
Knowledge of networking protocols, security principles, and cloud technologies (particularly AWS)
