About the role
Docker is hiring a Principal Software Engineer to lead the technical direction of its MCP Gateway and related services, building secure, developer-friendly AI infrastructure. The role involves collaborating with Product, Design, and Security teams to deliver frameworks and APIs.
What you’ll do
Lead technical direction of the MCP Gateway and related services
Build secure, developer-friendly AI infrastructure
Collaborate with Product, Design, and Security to deliver frameworks and APIs
Drive architectural vision and set technical direction across teams
Mentor engineers and lead technical design reviews
Ensure reliability through SLOs, observability, and incident response
What you’ll need
10+ years of backend engineering experience, including production-grade distributed systems at scale
Proven technical leadership across teams, driving architectural vision and long-term product strategy
Deep expertise in cloud-native systems, distributed computing, and performance optimization
Strong grasp of reliability engineering principles and secure, high-throughput backend service design
Fluency in Go or another modern systems language, with experience in Kubernetes, Docker, microservices, and major cloud platforms
Experience with OpenAI, Anthropic, or similar LLM APIs and the MCP specification
