About the role
Compass is hiring a Senior Software Engineer II to design and operate foundational database, caching, and streaming infrastructure, including multi-tenant isolation and large-scale database upgrades. This role focuses on production reliability and building shared tooling for engineers across the platform.
What you’ll do
Design and operate foundational database, caching, and streaming infrastructure
Build multi-tenant data isolation tooling
Manage large-scale database upgrades
Improve observability and production reliability
Develop shared SDKs, client libraries, and platform APIs
Lead cross-team operational programs including change management and rollback planning
What you’ll need
7+ years building and operating distributed systems at production scale in AWS
Depth in at least one major managed database such as PostgreSQL
Operated Kafka/MSK at scale including consumer lag, partition rebalancing, and cross-account IAM auth
Built shared tooling and understand infrastructure accessibility for non-specialists
Proficient in Go or ability to ramp quickly, plus Terraform, Kubernetes, and IAM-heavy AWS
Experience with multi-tenant isolation and observability platforms for databases and caching
