About the role
AppFolio is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to build and operate the authorization platform used across its products, ensuring secure, dependable, and scalable access control. The role involves working across the stack, diagnosing performance issues, and collaborating with engineering teams to enable integration of permissions.
What you’ll do
Work comfortably across the stack - backend services and customer-facing interfaces
Diagnose and improve performance and reliability in systems that serve high request volumes
Drive to root causes and cut unnecessary complexity rather than patch symptoms
Communicate proactively and clearly, explaining technical trade-offs to engineers and non-engineers
Collaborate generously across the team and with engineering teams org-wide
Prioritize team delivery over individual productivity
What you’ll need
7+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating production systems
Fluency with AI coding agents - experience with available agents and understanding of common concepts
Depth in Ruby on Rails, Go, or React with TypeScript, or ability to become effective quickly
Track record of designing and owning non-trivial Platform systems end-to-end
Experience with authorization, authentication, or other security-sensitive systems (a plus)
