About the role
Chief is hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to own core backend systems for its membership network and lead server-side development of AI features, including APIs, data models, and integrations.
What you’ll do
Own core backend systems for the member experience
Lead server-side development of AI features
Build APIs, data models, and integrations
Ensure high availability through monitoring, alerting, and on-call
Own ambiguous problems end to end
What you’ll need
6+ years of software engineering experience, mostly on production backend systems
Deep expertise in Node and TypeScript
Strong data modeling and SQL skills, ideally with Postgres
Experience designing and running GraphQL or REST APIs at production scale
Hands-on experience shipping at least one LLM-powered feature using Anthropic or OpenAI
Track record of keeping systems highly available with monitoring, alerting, on-call, and postmortems
