About the role
Fanatics Betting & Gaming is hiring a Staff Engineer to own and evolve the systems behind deposits, withdrawals, and checkout payments. The role sets technical direction for reliable, compliant, cost-effective payment flows and integrations across Fanatics businesses.
What you’ll do
Own and evolve payment systems for deposits, withdrawals, and checkout
Set technical direction for reliable, cost-effective, compliant payment flows
Design and operate payment integrations across multiple business units
Drive alignment across engineering, product, finance, and leadership
Ensure security, compliance, and high availability of payment platforms
Build maintainable APIs and event-driven architectures for downstream teams
What you’ll need
8+ years of software engineering experience with deep expertise in Java and Spring Boot
Experience building and operating production payment systems, including gateways, cards, or ACH
Strong understanding of idempotency, reconciliation, and failure handling with third-party providers
Experience designing secure, high-scale, low-latency distributed systems and event-driven architectures using Kafka
Working knowledge of PCI DSS and security/compliance requirements for payment data
Demonstrated success setting technical direction and explaining tradeoffs across teams
