About the role
Horizon3.ai is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to lead technical direction for the Internal Attack team, building and operating backend services, data pipelines, and APIs that power NodeZero's pentesting capabilities. The role requires hands-on leadership, reliability engineering, and cross-team technical influence.
What you’ll do
Set technical direction for backend services and data pipelines
Build and operate production backend services, APIs, and ETL systems
Own multiple complex initiatives and prioritize across competing dependencies
Influence technical decisions across engineering and product teams
Mentor and develop other engineers through reviews and guidance
Ensure reliability, observability, and operational excellence for shipped systems
What you’ll need
8+ years of professional software engineering experience
Technical leadership on high-complexity backend or data-platform initiatives
Experience building production data-processing, ETL, or distributed task-processing systems
Hands-on experience with backend APIs, relational data models, and SQL
Experience with cloud platforms, container technologies, and Kubernetes
Deep experience with GraphQL, graph databases, and modern Python toolchain
