About the role
Cohere is hiring a Senior/Staff backend engineer to lead the architecture and implementation of Model Vault, its secure enterprise inference platform. This role spans identity, deployments, billing, platform scalability, security, and reliable production operations, requiring deep distributed systems and security expertise.
What you’ll do
Lead architecture and implementation across identity, deployments, billing, and platform scalability
Drive ambiguous technical problems from architecture to reliable production systems
Enforce security boundaries including authentication, authorization, identity, cryptography, and tenant isolation
Operate production systems with instrumentation, capacity planning, and safe rollouts
Challenge and evolve foundational architecture as system needs change
What you’ll need
Strong backend fundamentals in distributed systems, databases, networking, operating systems, and security
Experience building production systems in Go, Python, Java, C++, Rust, or similar
Strong systems-design instincts including concurrency, consistency, caching, queues, rate limiting, and idempotency
Deep understanding of security boundaries and implementation risks
Ability to debug complex problems across service or system boundaries
Track record of taking difficult technical projects from unclear start to dependable systems
